about the over tones
Celebrating 10 years of harmony, community, and unforgettable performances
Founded in 2015 by Rachel Nachison, The Over Tones began as a community choir on Meetup.
Anyone could simply show up to a rehearsal, grab some sheet music, and join in on the fun. At one point, The Over Tones had over 35 members!
After gaining more traction in the Los Angeles a cappella scene through gigs and events, the group restructured in 2017 and began to take itself more seriously. Since then, The Over Tones have consistently sold out our concerts and have performed at various events in Southern California, including charity events, community awareness events, corporate events, private celebrations, holiday caroling, and even a flash mob! We’ve also competed in Harmony Sweepstakes, hosted the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival, and collaborated with other local a cappella groups.
In 2020, despite planning for a five year anniversary celebration, The Over Tones adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic and cancelled all in-person rehearsals and performances — but that didn’t stop us from Zoom hangouts and recording songs virtually. We even participated in online gigs!
Though many members have moved on or moved away, we resumed in-person rehearsals and performances in 2023. We are now a much smaller group, allowing us to focus more intentionally on the quality of our music.
Most importantly, our members have created a truly special community. We look forward to singing together every week — and, of course, planning our annual Big Bear retreat!
